FAQ

General Information

How much should I take each day?

Our mushrooms are functional foods and can be taken daily as part of a supportive wellness routine.

Tinctures

We generally recommend 2 mL per day (two full droppers) for consistent, foundational support. This amount is what we feel provides a meaningful daily dose for most people.

If you’re looking for a conservative starting dose, 1 mL per day is a great place to start. If you’re taking a more proactive approach, you may prefer taking 2 mL per day.

Powders

We generally recommend 1 teaspoon daily (approximately 2 g) as a simple, foundational amount.

If you’re looking for a lighter daily approach, ½ teaspoon can be a great place to start. If you’d like a more robust serving, 1 to 2 teaspoons daily works well for many people. Powders can be mixed into hot water, coffee, smoothies or added to recipes.

Medicinal mushroom supplementation is personal, so we recommend you listen to your body, stay consistent and adjust as needed..

What do we mean when we say “extract”?

Mushrooms contain beneficial compounds that are naturally locked inside their fibrous cell walls, which the human body has a hard time breaking down on its own. An extract is simply a way of gently unlocking and concentrating these compounds so your body can actually access them. Through extraction, we’re able to capture a broader spectrum of mushroom constituents that support the body in different ways. In short, extracts allow mushrooms to be more bioavailable, functional, and effective.

Why do we use a dual extraction method?

Different beneficial compounds in mushrooms dissolve in different mediums. Some are best extracted with hot water, while others require alcohol. A dual extraction allows us to work with both, capturing a broader and more complete spectrum of mushroom constituents.

Our mushrooms undergo a dual extraction process: first a hot water decoction to draw out water-soluble compounds such as polysaccharides and beta-glucans, followed by a slow alcohol extraction using grape-based alcohol (grappa) to capture alcohol-soluble constituents such as triterpenes, sterols, and other bioactive compounds depending on the species. The two extracts are then carefully combined to produce a balanced tincture with a final alcohol concentration of approximately 30%.

What exactly are we extracting from the mushrooms?

Mushrooms contain a wide range of naturally occurring compounds that support the body in different ways. Through hot water extraction, we primarily draw out water-soluble compounds such as beta-glucans and other polysaccharides, which have been studied for their role in supporting immune modulation and overall resilience.

Alcohol extraction allows us to access triterpenoids, sterols, and other alcohol-soluble compounds that are traditionally associated with adaptogenic and restorative properties. In certain species, this step can also help capture unique compounds such as hericenones and erinacines found in Lion’s Mane, which are studied for their relationship to cognitive and neurological health.

By working with both methods, we are able to capture a broader spectrum of what the mushroom naturally offers. The maceration process plays an important role in this, as time, temperature, and solvent ratios all influence which compounds are released from the mushroom material. Our extraction process has been carefully refined to optimize both the hot water and alcohol phases, resulting in a more complete and balanced extract.

How do I recycle or reuse Mycé packaging?

We design our packaging with recyclability and reusability in mind. Below are simple steps for each format.

Tinctures (all five formulas)
Our tincture bottles are fully recyclable.

  1. Make sure the bottle is empty.
  2. Rinse with warm soapy water.
  3. Separate the components.
  4. Place the glass bottle and glass pipette in your recycling bin.
  5. Place the plastic cap in the garbage.

The paper label inside the bottle will break down during the recycling process, so there is no need to remove it. If you prefer a completely clear bottle, you can rinse with hot water to release the label.

Powders

  1. Make sure the jar is empty.
  2. Rinse with warm water to remove any remaining powder.
  3. Place the glass jar and aluminum cap in your recycling bin.

Both our tincture and powder containers are also great for reuse if you’d like to store herbs, spices, small items, or anything else around the home.

Do your mushrooms contain anything psychoactive or hallucinogenic?

No. Our formulas are made exclusively with functional mushrooms, not psychedelic mushrooms.

Functional mushrooms have a long history of traditional use for supporting overall wellness and are widely studied for their beneficial compounds. They do not contain psilocybin or other psychoactive substances, and they do not produce hallucinogenic effects.

Our extracts are designed to support the body and mind in a grounded, non-intoxicating way.

Product Information

What is the best time of day to take the mycé tinctures?

We generally recommend taking the tinctures in the morning as part of your daily routine. Many of our mushrooms, especially those containing chaga or schisandra, support steady energy and clarity, making them a great way to begin the day.

We personally like to take our dosage in the morning and leave it sit under our tongue for at least 30 seconds. We recommend to take it before the day starts so the body can work with the supportive and grounding properties of these mushrooms throughout the day.

That said, timing can be flexible. Some people prefer taking Reishi in the evening as part of a wind down ritual, while Lion’s Mane can fit comfortably either earlier in the day or later depending on your routine. Rose is often enjoyed during the day or in the evening for its gentle, heart centered qualities.

Ultimately, consistency matters more than the exact hour. Choose the time that feels natural and sustainable for you.

Are Mycé products organic?

We work with mushrooms that are either sustainably foraged in nature or grown by small-scale producers who follow organic and regenerative practices. Many of our cultivated mushrooms are sourced from partners in Québec who grow to organic standards, and in some cases hold organic certification at the farm level.

At this time, we do not place certified organic claims on our finished products. Certification requirements for multi-ingredient extracts can be complex and we have chosen to focus first on ingredient quality, transparency and responsible sourcing. For us, “organic” is as much about relationship, stewardship and process as it is about certification.

Are Mycé extracts made from fruiting bodies or mycelium?

All of our tinctures are made exclusively from mushroom fruiting bodies. The fruiting body is the visible part of the mushroom and is traditionally valued for its rich concentration of beneficial compounds.

We do not currently use mycelium in our tinctures. That said, both mycelium and fruiting body have demonstrated beneficial properties in research, and they can work well together. Our choice to focus on fruiting bodies is based on how we currently source and craft our extracts.

Our Five Mushroom Powder contains a dual extraction of both fruiting body and mycelium, with no fillers or added substrates.

Our Chaga is sustainably foraged from Canadian forests, working with responsible partners in Québec and Ontario who harvest in a way that respects forest ecosystems and regeneration.

Are Mycé products gluten-free?

Yes. Our products are made with naturally gluten-free ingredients, including mushrooms, botanicals, grape-based alcohol, organic vegetable glycerin, chamomile, and water.

The mushrooms we source are cultivated on gluten-free substrates and are not grown on wheat, barley, rye, or oats. We also do not add any gluten-containing ingredients to our formulas.

Are Mycé products safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

There is currently not enough research to determine whether mushroom extracts are safe or unsafe during pregnancy or breastfeeding. For this reason, we do not provide medical guidance around use in these circumstances and always recommend speaking with a qualified healthcare practitioner.

All of our mushroom tinctures are alcohol based, and alcohol is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Our Rose Petal Glycerite is alcohol free and made with organic rose petals, organic vegetable glycerin, and distilled water, and is tested for heavy metals. Some individuals may choose to discuss this option with their healthcare practitioner, however we still recommend professional guidance before using any of our products.

Your healthcare provider is best positioned to help you determine what is appropriate for your specific situation.

Are Mycé products intended for children?

Our products are formulated for adults.

At this time, there is not enough research to determine the safety of mushroom extracts for children, so we do not recommend using our extracts for this age group.

If you’re interested in introducing mushrooms into your child’s diet, starting with whole, cooked culinary mushrooms as part of regular meals is generally considered a more appropriate place to begin.

Are Mycé products tested for heavy metals, microbial contamination and mycotoxins?

Yes. We work with a third-party laboratory in Canada to test our products for heavy metals, microbial contamination and mycotoxins.

Each batch is evaluated to help ensure it meets quality and safety standards before it is released. Testing is an important part of our commitment to offering clean, responsibly crafted extracts you can trust.

What is the shelf life of Mycé tinctures and powders?

Our tinctures have a shelf life of two years when stored properly.
Our powdered products have a shelf life of three years.

For best quality, store all products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.

Can I take Mycé tinctures or powders with other supplements or herbs?

Our tinctures and powders are designed to integrate easily into a variety of wellness routines and are often used alongside other supplements and herbs.

While functional mushrooms have a long history of traditional use, we do not make claims regarding their use in combination with other products. Individual responses may vary.

If you have a medical condition, are taking medications, or are considering combining multiple supplements, we recommend consulting a qualified healthcare practitioner to determine what is appropriate for your individual needs.

Should I cycle Mycé products, and can I take multiple formulas together?

Mycé tinctures and powders can be used together and are designed to integrate easily into a variety of wellness routines. There is no requirement to use only one product at a time. Some people prefer working with a single mushroom at first to observe how their body responds, while others choose to combine different formulas based on personal preference.

Mushrooms have a long history of traditional use as foods and are often used on a regular basis. There is no established requirement to cycle their use.

That said, some individuals choose to incorporate periodic breaks or rotations into their routine, based on personal preference or traditional practices. After a few months of consistent use, this might look like taking a short pause or rotating into different mushroom formulas. This approach is optional and simply reflects one way of varying intake over time.

You may choose to pause use for a few weeks, or rotate between formulas with different compositions, depending on what feels appropriate for you.

As always, individual responses may vary. If you have a medical condition, are taking medications, or are unsure about combining products, we recommend consulting a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Why does my tincture look or taste slightly different than my last bottle?

Small variations in colour and taste from batch to batch are normal. We work with whole mushrooms and botanicals, which are living materials that naturally change depending on factors like season, harvest time, growing conditions, and moisture content.

For example, herbs such as rose petals are harvested and sun-dried at different points in the season, which can subtly influence tannins, aroma, and flavour. These natural shifts do not affect the integrity of the extract.

We follow the same extraction protocols each time, but we do not standardize for colour or flavour. This allows us to offer full spectrum extracts without manipulating or forcing uniformity.

As our practice evolves, we may refine elements such as maceration time or process details as we learn more. When small changes occur, they are always made with the intention of improving quality and extraction depth.

Do Mycé products contain fillers, grains, or added starches?

No. We do not use fillers, grains, added starches, or flow agents in any of our products.

Every formula is crafted using only mushrooms, botanicals, and functional extraction mediums, with nothing added that does not serve a purpose.
